Why it’s Important to Back up to the Cloud

Why it’s Important to Back up to the Cloud

Enhanced Security

One of the most important features of cloud backup is the security it offers you and your customers. Data loss can be detrimental to Businesses. Files that are selected for backup are encrypted before they are transferred to the cloud and will remain encrypted when they reach it. It uses military grade encryption that only allows the user to view the data. These security measures are far more efficient to on site data backup and recovery systems.

Simple to use

Cloud backup solutions save time and money while making ongoing management and restoration easy. With just a few clicks of the mouse, backed up files can be easily found, accessed and restored. This eliminates hardware, software and cuts maintenance costs. Meaning you don’t require a big IT department and you will be given a portal to backup files to.

Automatic Replication

Having Data in the cloud allows you to access it anytime and anywhere. As long as there is access to the internet. Our team of engineers can set your files to automatically backup at any time required. This saves time for Businesses whilst giving you peace of mind that your files are safe.

Small to medium size Businesses don’t usually have an unlimited IT budget in place. It’s important to use a solution that makes sense financially to the company. A cloud back up, recovery and restore solution takes advantage of your current setup so you don’t need to buy or install any extra equipment that would incur extra charges.

Improved reliability and Speed of Recovery

In today’s world getting access to backed up data when you need it is critical. Having a cloud and recovery solution will instantly restore data files and you can determine different recovery points depending on your businesses requirements.  We can offer a wide range of options for data recovery to ensure backup and restorations are handled speedily and efficiently.

Email in the Cloud: No Brainer

Hand holding tray with cloud computing concept

Email is the backbone of any modern businesses and is an integral part of customer acquisition, retention and communication, but many business owners don’t give it a second thought.

Many people regularly use cloud based personal email, such as Gmail or Hotmail, but haven’t considered cloud email for business. Onsite email regularly causes headaches and slowdowns within a business and can even result in lost business in the case of lost emails and server failures. This can lose businesses money, and can cost hours of valuable company time.

The time and energy needed to set up onsite email servers can be costly. The modern need to protect against malware, span and trojans can be an arduous burden, and software licenses can become expensive. There could also be a potentially devastating loss of data were these servers to fail. These problems can all be offset through the use of a hosted cloud based email service.

Outsourcing your confidential emails to an external company can seem scary but is, in fact, the safest, most secure option available. Cloud email is encrypted and off-site, meaning that sensitive company details are kept away from the centralised workspace, ensuring immunity from physical and digital theft.

What can Cloud Email do for my Business?

Aside from security considerations, cloud email can provide businesses with a multitude of added benefits. The ability to access work email from anywhere can greatly boost staff productivity, allowing instant access to the emails you need, wherever and whenever you need them. Importantly, even if a business’ main server is down, their emails are still accessible and functioning. This means that essential work can still be carried out whilst repairs to onsite servers are made. This would not be possible with an onsite email strategy without separate onsite email servers, which would be expensive and would take up more space and power, whilst providing the same functionality.

When cloud email is paired with a virtual server, staff have the ability to take all of their work on the go, allowing them to access all essential work files whilst away from the office. Modern businesses are increasingly decentralising in order to increase efficiency and productivity, and cloud based email and servers are a panacea in this respect.

March FAQ

Every month we publish a list of the most frequently asked questions from the previous month. So here’s our FAQ from March.

What is PBX hacking?

This is when your telephone systems is accessed by unauthorised individuals that rack up thousands of euro in charges by running calls through your lines. They usually gain access through weakly secured voicemail inboxes, maintenance ports or unsecured networks.

How do I protect my telephone system?

The best way to prevent your system from getting hacked is to;

  1. Make sure your employees are not using obvious pins on their voicemail, 0000, 1234 etc….
  2. We would recommend placing a bar on all international & premium calls outside of regular business hours.
  3. Make sure your systems has the latest software & patches installed. Along with increased security, the latest software versions also offer 6 digit pins for voicemail.
  4. Get in contact with your line provider to ensure there has been no unauthorised activity on your bill.

What is an Edge Gateway?

An Edge Gateway acts as a virtual router for your VDC networks.  Much like a physical router, they can be configured for network services like DCHP, VPN, Firewall etc.

What is DCHP?

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DCHP) is a network protocol that allows Dynamic IP Addresses to be automatically assigned to any device connected to a network.  It is used to simplify network administration by keeping track of IP addresses and making it unnecessary for administrator to manually add an IP address every time a device is connected to the network.

What is the difference between Disaster Recovery and Online Backup?

Simply put, online backup is used to secure files and systems that can be restored in the event of data loss or corruption. Disaster recovery allows the replication of entire systems, and in the event of a disaster, these replications can go live keeping your businesses running and preventing downtime.
