Why it’s Important to Back up to the Cloud

Why it’s Important to Back up to the Cloud

Enhanced Security

One of the most important features of cloud backup is the security it offers you and your customers. Data loss can be detrimental to Businesses. Files that are selected for backup are encrypted before they are transferred to the cloud and will remain encrypted when they reach it. It uses military grade encryption that only allows the user to view the data. These security measures are far more efficient to on site data backup and recovery systems.

Simple to use

Cloud backup solutions save time and money while making ongoing management and restoration easy. With just a few clicks of the mouse, backed up files can be easily found, accessed and restored. This eliminates hardware, software and cuts maintenance costs. Meaning you don’t require a big IT department and you will be given a portal to backup files to.

Automatic Replication

Having Data in the cloud allows you to access it anytime and anywhere. As long as there is access to the internet. Our team of engineers can set your files to automatically backup at any time required. This saves time for Businesses whilst giving you peace of mind that your files are safe.

Affordable

Small to medium size Businesses don’t usually have an unlimited IT budget in place. It’s important to use a solution that makes sense financially to the company. A cloud back up, recovery and restore solution takes advantage of your current setup so you don’t need to buy or install any extra equipment that would incur extra charges.

Improved reliability and Speed of Recovery

In today’s world getting access to backed up data when you need it is critical. Having a cloud and recovery solution will instantly restore data files and you can determine different recovery points depending on your businesses requirements.  We can offer a wide range of options for data recovery to ensure backup and restorations are handled speedily and efficiently.

How to Protect Your Business From WannaCry

Ransomware

WannaCry (also known as WannaCrypt0r) is a new ransomware attack which started affecting computers last week. It gains access through a backdoor built into older versions of Windows and then encrypts the host hard drive. To unencrypt the files, the victim must send money to the hackers. So far WannaCry has affected thousands of computers and servers, across hundreds of organisations, including the NHS, Telefónica, Nissan and some Irish hospitals, causing untold havoc among those affected.

How to Protect Yourself

WannaCry is unlike other ransomware attacks as it does not spread through infected email links or files, but instead installs automatically, without user input. This means that users must be proactive in protecting themselves from the attack. Users should make sure that their computers are fully updated, and any users running Windows 8 or below should download and install the patch released by Microsoft here.

To protect yourself from future malware attacks you should never open links or files from people you don’t know or trust. Malware is often spread through infected Word or PDF documents, so do not assume any file is safe if it is from an unknown source.

For a comprehensive anti-malware solution, users should consider Webroot Security and Sleepless Cloud Backup to stop threats from gaining access to your systems and to keep your files safe, away from the risk of infection.

Disaster Recovery vs. Cloud Backup: How to Decide

Disaster Recovery

A lot of people do not know the difference between Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery. There are many similarities but there are some very important differences that could cost a business thousands in lost revenue if they were ignored. This article will explain the differences between the two backup solutions and how you can protect your business from disaster.

The Similarities

Both Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery are data protection methods which store your data offsite and allow access of said data through the internet. They both often back up automatically and silently, requiring a minimum of effort on the client side, and they both generally work on a subscription model. The methods behind both technologies are broadly similar but the outcomes are very different.

The Differences

Cloud Backup works by copying every file from a client’s computer or server and storing it on an offsite server. This data can be recovered by transmitting the backed up data back to the client’s computer or server in the event of a data loss. If any client-side equipment has failed, it must be replaced before the restore can take place. Restores can be very slow, depending on the size of the backup and the speed of the client’s internet connection. On the low side this can be a few hours but can often take days with large server restores.

Disaster Recovery methods similarly work by copying every file from a client’s machine to an offsite server, but when it comes to recovering your files, you can be up and running within minutes. This is because Disaster Recovery packages store your files as a bootable image and then run that image from their servers as soon as recovery is needed. Workplace computers will work exactly as they did before the data loss, but will actually be reading their files straight from the offsite backup, across the internet. In the background, Disaster Recovery packages still restore your files to your servers, which will take the same amount of time as with Cloud Backup, but the important difference is the ability to use your computers and access your data whilst this is taking place.

Who is Disaster Recovery for?

Disaster Recovery is essential for any business who can’t afford downtime or data loss. For example, if an insurance company’s server malfunctions, they could be liable for all of the claims they could not pay out and would lose all the business coming to them whilst the server is down.

Backup – It’s a Bright Idea

Backup - it's a bright Idea

Backup – It’s a bright idea

It’s World Backup Day today and  Sleepless are using the occasion to highlight the importance for all businesses to protect their critical data and systems.

To do this we are offering one month free backup to any business that signs up with Sleepless on World Backup Day (March 31st).

Does my business need backup

It’s the age of big data, our reliance on technology has never been higher. However, one thing many tend to overlook is that no matter how far technology has come it, much like ourselves, is not infallible. Technology is a resource and the best practice of any business is to have cover in place in the event of an essential resource becoming unavailable. We do so with suppliers, employees etc, so why not with technology?

Backup and replication services offer exactly this. If you have critical data that is essential to the continued operation of your business then having an alternative source to access this from is essential. If there are certain systems that are of the same importance, then replicating them to the cloud will allow you access to all necessary resources in the event of an emergency.

What are the advantages of Off Site Data Backup?

  • Redundant data storage in multiple locations.
  • Automatic backup thus removing the need for human intervention.
  • Unlimited data retention.
  • Scalable – based on your data load
  • Daily notifications

So why not sign up now for one month free business backup from Sleepless. It’s a bright idea.
