TechThursday – Gold Backup Part 2

Setting up your backup plan.

This is a continuation from our previous TechTuesday post: ‘Installing Sleepless Gold Backup powered by Acronis‘. This week we are looking at setting up your backup plan.

Once you have installed your back up the next step is to setup a backup plan. Backup plans are an automated way of scheduling a backup to run for a period of days or weeks which will keep a number of restore points. When running a back you will need to keep in mind the first backup is always the biggest and can take up a lot of bandwidth on your broadband. Once the first backup is run the next will be an incremental backup which will be a lot small and quicker. An incremental backup will only backup the changes made since the previous backup.

Step 1

Login to https://cloud.acronis.com using the login details you created previously.

Step 2

Enable the backup:

Step 3

Once the backup is enabled you will be able to choose:

  • What to backup
  • Items to Back up
  • Where to Back up
  • Schedule
  • How long to keep
  • Encryption

Step 4

Click Apply and choose a name for the backup. Once you have installed the full installer shown on the previous walkthrough you will be able to setup backups for Exchange and SQL.

Benefits of Cloud Backup for SME’s

Benefits of Cloud Backup for SME’s

Benefits of Cloud Backup for SME’s

Recent studies have found that despite the rise of ‘The Cloud’ many small to medium businesses still backup their data using directly attached storage devices. As we all know these storage devices, such as USB sticks, can be lost, stolen or corrupted. So while they are convenient, they cannot deliver the same benefits and security to your business that a cloud backup service can.

In this article I’ll take a quick look at the benefits of online backup to business and why they should step away from physical backups and switch to the cloud.

Business grade online backup is a complete automated solution that encrypts then transfers data from your servers/computers to a specialised data centre that is designed to manage the end to end backup and restoration process. It enables efficient tracking of changes to your data, keeps prior versions of documents, compresses your data and handles automatic scheduling.

Maintaining your company’s critical data offsite is imperative for business continuity. With an offsite backup solution from a cloud provider your business benefits from:

  1. Anytime, Anywhere Access, Having your data backed up to the cloud allows for access from any location on any device.
  2. Your Data is Secured Offsite. In the event of something happening to your premises, flood/fire etc. your data is safe, secure and most importantly recoverable.
  3. Ease of use. BaaS (Backup as a Service) has made management and restoration easy. All it takes to restore a file or a full system is a few clicks.
  4. Automatic Scheduling. With cloud backup your files and automatically and continuously backed up.
  5. Business grade backup enables encryption of your data both in transit and at rest.

The benefit to any business is obvious, however, many are still hesitant to make the move. The main reason stated? Price. The reason for this is that most SME’s don’t have large IT budgets and still hold the belief that the cloud is an expensive endeavour. The reality though is quite the opposite. An average small business could expect to pay as little as €150 per year for a business grade backup service.

If you have any questions in relation to the cloud and how it will benefit your business, please contact Sleepless.

Sleepless offer three industry leading backup solutions powered by Acronis, Attix5 and Veeam. If you would like to find more information about the differences between our service offerings please contact our sales team.
